er name is melodic and catchy. And so is her music. Singer/songwriter Lanae’ Hale recently released “Back & Forth” on Centricity Records. This is her first full-length album; she also has an EP. The thoroughly enjoyable “Back & Forth” offers 11 songs that marvelously mesh humble lyrics with attention-getting vocals.

The tracks on “Back & Forth” are anything but predictable. Rather, they feature mesmerizing vocal hooks, contrite confessions and rousing recollections of redemption.

Though Lanae’ Hale is relatively new to audiences, the producers of her album are not; they also produced albums for Nichole Nordeman. I sincerely hope that Christian music fans embrace Lanae’ Hale because her music and lyrics are indeed worth widespread attention and a devoted fan following.

Each song on “Back & Forth” showcases Lanae’ Hale’s vocal range, especially the title track. The tracks on this album are instantly memorable. Listeners who find themselves singing along will soon discover the challenge of using the same vocal range of Lanae’ Hale. That, in turn, compels the listener to continue listening to the songs to try and master the vocalization.

Every song on this album is very good. However, a few of them deserve special attention. The title track, “Back & Forth,” is a great opener and also a wonderful lead single. Specifically, the bridge is particularly enjoyable. The vocalization is haunting, yet hopeful, just like the subject of the song.

Heading to the opposite edge of the CD, the final song, “Don’t Cry,” is a gem. Hale somehow uses her voice in a mysterious combination resembling that of a whisper and a scream when she utters the words “oh no” repeatedly. Though Hale tackles the tough tragedies of the world in that song, she truthfully and triumphantly reminds the listener that overcoming apathy leads to victory.

This album is full of achingly honest lyrics infused with humility. For example, the song “It’s Over” delivers a zinger with the line: “I stopped for a minute or two with thoughts of losing you but forced my faith to fight my fear.” If that’s not a cure for doubt, I’m not sure what is.
