he youth in America need positive, uplifting music. Luke Benward’s new CD “Let Your Love Out” (iShine) brings just that. Thirteen-year-old Benward already enjoys success as an actor. He acted in the films “How to Eat Fried Worms” and “Because of Winn-Dixie.” He also appeared in the music video for Martina McBride’s song “Concrete Angel.”

Benward is a fourth-generation singer. His father, Aaron Benward, is half of the country duo, Blue Country. His grandfather is contemporary Christian artist Jeff Benward.

Though “Let Your Love Out” is just an EP, it’s a great introduction into what can be a great career for Benward. His youthful energy is contagious, his songs are catchy and his message is a beacon of light to his generation.

Benward dedicated his song “Everyday Hero” to his mom to thank her for her support and encouragement. In secular music, it’s so easy to find lyrics that don’t honor mothers and fathers. It’s truly exciting when Christian music speaks biblical truth into worldly life. The Bible instructs children to honor their parents; Benward’s song does that. “Everyday Hero” brings great perspective, honor and gratefulness to the child-parent relationship.

Another bright highlight of this first album from Benward is the song “Get Up.” This upbeat song is full of exhortation, calls to positive action and the pursuit of purposed interaction with the people of the world. As Benward says in the song, “It takes you/It takes me/To make somebody’s world a brighter place to be.” “Get Up” is a great call to action not only for youth, but for people of any age and stage.

In a world of selfishness, rushing and busyness, “Let Your Love Out"” is a catchy reminder to take a minute to acknowledge and love the people around us.

If you’re not really into kids' music, think you’re too cool for kids' music or don’t have kids, this EP could still benefit you. Benward covers the familiar “Higher Love,” originally sung by Steve Winwood. I challenge you to listen to “Higher Love.” You’ll be surprised to find yourself singing along to that song and enjoying the rest of the CD as well.
