s I read in my Bible the story of Christ’s Resurrection, I see the faith, hope, persistence and evangelism in early Christians, as 12 devoted disciples and Jesus’ followers went into the world to preach the Gospel. I can almost hear them shouting to others, “Jesus rose from the grave! Hallelujah! He is risen, indeed!”

In my opinion, we need to be more committed to going into our world today and sharing our faith in our Living Lord. I think that many Christians today seem not to be as compelled to tell others what they know of Jesus Christ as were the early first-century believers.

Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ followers. She was a woman of faith whose staunch belief and faithful dedicated service contributed to Jesus’ ministry; she followed throughout his ministry to care for his and the disciples’ needs. Picture yourself back in ancient Israel hearing Mary tell the story of what she had witnessed. I think it was probably something like the following.

Mary’s story

I, Mary Magdalene, believe Jesus is my Messiah, the one the prophets spoke of. Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. But politics made the Sanhedrin and the Romans fear Jesus’ popularity. They crucified Jesus at Golgotha.

On the cross, Jesus cried out in a loud voice and said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit, and at that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life! They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ Resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God! Many of us women were there, watching from a distance. We were shocked.

Later, commitment filled my heart to aid in Jesus’ burial. Joseph of Arimathea went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. He bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in Joseph’s own tomb cut out of rock. I and Mary the mother of Joses, saw where Jesus was laid in the tomb and saw a large stone rolled against the entrance.

I admit I was discouraged. Then I began to feel some hope as I remembered the words of Jesus: “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” (Mark 9:31)

Are you committed to actively sharing the Gospel?

And I’m here to tell you the good news. That is exactly what happened! On the third day he was raised from the dead! More than 500 of us followers saw and touched Jesus several times after that. He lives! He is risen indeed!

Go into your world

After his Resurrection, Jesus said to his followers, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (John 20:21) The Gospel message is left to true believers in all cultures and centuries to spread throughout the world so all will have heard that God sent his Son, Jesus, to be our Savior.

Are you committed to actively sharing the Gospel in your workplace, neighborhood, the places you visit daily? Do people see Jesus in your life by the way you live? Do your habits, speech, and actions indicate your belief in God?

I believe that what we take in, grows in us. Therefore if we take in Scripture and Jesus’ words as Mary Magdalene did, if we turn off what occupies our time and memorize Scripture daily, our lives and relationships will drastically change. Let us commit to know the vibrant Word of God to build up our faith so we will be a testimony. The Word of God is living and powerful. Filling our minds with it is the perfect makeover.
