-mail, texting, instant messaging, cell phones ... oh my! People are in constant communication with one another. However, words are often lost in translation. For example, "ttly" means totally while "ttyl" means talk to you later. Imagine typing "ttly" and receiving the response of "good bye"! These misconceptions are easily made because people do not always listen; rather, they just hear you. Simply put, "in one ear and out the other." All of this can be confusing at times, especially when texting "bff's" or chatting online using acronyms or emoticons.
Through all of the fast-paced, hi-tech communication, the generational lingo and foreign languages, there is One who will always understand and listen to every word spoken - God. God does not care about the means we use to communicate but, rather, he cares about what we say when communicating. In this sense, words can have a greater effect than actions.
| There's no contest for fancy prayers. |
Among all types of communication, there is one language that unites us with one another and ultimately with God - the language of prayer. Prayer does not cost anything. We are never put on hold. And we'll never have to leave a message after a series of beeps.
Prayer simply supplies us with the best, basic and most direct way of communicating with God. We need not worry about saying the wrong words or using incorrect grammar. There is no contest for the fanciest prayer. God understands us as we are, and that is good enough for him. TTFN!
