Building STARS Behind Bars

A faith-based program for prison ministry is making a significant difference in the lives of inmates at a Maryland prison. Through the S.T.A.R.S. program, inmates learn many life skills, business skills, how to think before reacting and much more. Admitting their belief in God, they also learn to be good representatives of the One who reveals himself to them in the program and helps them change their lives for the future.

ndisputed time to think,” says Donte Kearney. “That’s what jail definitely gives you. I mean, there’s nothing like it.” Kearney salts his revelation with an all-knowing laugh – the kind of laugh that says you’ve learned more than you intended to learn in a lifetime. Kearney, 21, stands before a milestone – not his age because the State of Maryland considered him a man, accruing man-like criminal charges since he was 18. It’s because he says he’s decided “to man-up” and make a difference.

To have the privilege of helping him onstage is overwhelming. I wish you could see what happens in the audience when we tell them that he had a fall and that he has had memory loss. Please Sign In
