id you ever have “one of those days” when everything goes wrong? It begins with waking up to a dog staring you down with a “See, I told you I had to go out last night” look. You completely ignored his whining and grumbling, thinking it was part of a strange dream. The first step you take confirms that it wasn't.
While you are cleaning up the eggs that jumped from your fingers onto the floor, the toaster decides to burn your toast. That's OK though; the butter dish is empty anyway.
It's trash day. The moment you step outside with the trash, the bag rips. It begins to rain ... heavily.
You've waited an entire month for an important interview — and this is the day. It also happens to be the first day that the road crew begins road repair on the route you need to take. Traffic is backed up for miles.
Your pen leaks on everything in your purse, including on your cell phone you thought was charging overnight. The battery is completely dead.
Your drink never makes it all the way down the chute in the machine ... neither does your change.
The checkout line is moving quickly. It's your turn. You unload your cart-full of items. The brand new technologically advanced computerized register system crashes and won't reboot.
You're on an escalator when it stops moving. Not paying attention, you stand helpless. Someone nudges you from behind. “Walk, my friend, just walk,” he says. The strange looks you get from the onlookers will forever be etched in your mind.
With the New Year just beginning and all the “Why me?” days behind you, you are determined to never again have another “Why me?” day for as long as you live. You believe you're well on your way to the best year yet. After all, Christians should be exempt from those interruptions in life, right?
Alas, two checks are returned to you because you mistakenly wrote last year's date on them, and the snowy ice cap on the top of your car slides off, taking your antenna with it. So it begins — again. Shrugging your shoulders, you finally accept that you have just been “lifed.” It is inevitable for you or anyone to have many “Why me?” days in life
1 John 4:4 says: “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
Perspective on life and faith in God can help us move through “one of those days” a little easier. Life, especially when we are obedient Christians trying our best, is not guaranteed to be problem free. We are not exempt. But we do have a choice how we act and react, how we respond, how we apply our faith.
When faced with a challenge or difficulty, is it really something that can hurt us or keep us from attaining our life's purpose, our calling? Will we allow it to hold us back, hold us down, or push us backwards? Learn to laugh at the simple things that trip us. Learn to laugh at our own silly endeavors. Get back up — and just walk. Pray about the more difficult things. God will help see us through it all.
